The Highgrounds

The Highgrounds consist of three large mountains in the center of the island and a lake. The lake, surrounded by the mountains, is a stunning blue in color. The clouds seem to hang low, but in reality, it’s just the elevation. Many species of fish live in the lake, including Arctic Char, Atlantic Cod, Brown Trout, and Ice Tail Pike, making it a prime feeding place for the dragons. There is a small island near the center of the lake, only big enough to hold a few trees. The Highgrounds include parts of the surrounding forests, whose trees have run up onto the foothills. The largest of the mountains on the island is the northernmost mountain. While the temperatures surrounding the lake are cool and crisp, the mountaintops are always covered in snow. There is a gap between the western and southern mountains where the lake flows west in a slow, steady river. The terrain in the mountainous region is uneven and rocky. The further up, the more the plants spread out and eventually stop.
